 Inc.:

WHAT: Eisai Inc., a Teaneck, N.J.-based pharmaceutical
company, broke ground today for a significant
expansion of its manufacturing and research and
development site in Research Triangle Park, North
Carolina. The 80,000 square foot expansion, which will
nearly double the size of the original facility
dedicated in 1997, is planned to increase the
                company's manufacturing and packaging capabilities.

In the past five years, Eisai has gained a foothold in
the U.S. market through strategic copromotion
agreements for its innovative therapies and is now
moving toward in-licensing and independent marketing
                of products.

The company had an initial plan to expand the facility
every three to five years. The first expansion,
completed in May 2001, was expected to meet Eisai's
space requirements for the next two to four years.
However, growth has been faster than anticipated. Upon
completion of this second expansion, Eisai's Research
Triangle Park facility will lead to new job
opportunities over the next two years.
