ADVISORY/Educators and Recruiters to Enlighten Society for Technical Communication at November 14 Meeting.Business Editors ADVISORY...for November 14 (Thursday) PLYMOUTH, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2002 The Southeastern Michigan chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC/SM) has assembled a panel of well-respected area educators and recruiters for its November program, entitled: "The Impact of Education on Technical Communication Careers." The program runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, at the Hilton Garden Inn Hilton Garden Inn is the name of a chain of hotels operated by Hilton Hotels Corporation. The hotel brand is similar to that of the Courtyard by Marriott brand. in Plymouth. Educators on the panel were considered for their extensive experience in education as well as the workplace. They include Dr. Ann Blakeslee, Professor and Director of Writing Programs at Eastern Michigan University Eastern Michigan University, mainly at Ypsilanti, Mich.; coeducational; founded 1849 as a normal school, became Eastern Michigan College in 1956, gained university status in 1959. ; Dr. Brian Pedell, Director of the Technical Communication Program at Lawrence Technological University Lawrence Tech was founded in 1932 as the Lawrence Institute of Technology and adopted its current name in 1989. The school mascot is the blue devil, and the school colors are blue and white. ; and Lisa Veasey, Technical Communication Program Adviser and Instructor at Washtenaw Community College Washtenaw Community College is a community college located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Founded in 1965,[1] the school has comprehensive training partnerships with local and national businesses and organizations, and transfer agreements with the University of . Joining the educators on the panel are Toni Pollock, Account Manager for Jawood Management Associates, and Adam Conrad, Technical Recruiter for Resource Technologies Corporation, who will represent the viewpoint of area recruiters. Panelists will offer their points of view on current market trends, such as the demand for technical writers with and without degrees or certificates and the technical communication skills sought by most employers. They will also discuss technical communication trends in the academic community, including changes in course focus, and recommendations for how to take control of your career.
