Drexel, opened 1892, chartered 1894 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. It was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology in 1936 and gained university status in 1970.
What: Music legend Kal Rudman and his wife, Lucille, will visit
Drexel University for the launch of the Kal & Lucille Rudman
Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies, the first of
its kind on the East Coast. The Institute will focus on
keeping local talent in the City and promoting Philadelphia
as an entertainment center.
The Rudmans will leave their handprints in a 3ft. by 2 ft.
block of plaster with a plaque noting their accomplishments
in the entertainment business.
Students from various entertainment majors at Drexel's
College of Media Arts & Design (CoMAD) will celebrate the
launch of the Institute, including student band Alphabet
Army that performs with puppets, and dancers from the Fine
and Performing Arts program. Drexel President Constantine
Papadakis and CoMAD dean Jonathan Estrin will welcome the
Rudmans.
