Old Computers, TVs and More to be Collected at Village Crossing Mall

This Weekend September September: see month.  7 and 8 - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

What: For two days only, the Best Buy store at the Village
Crossing Shopping Center in Skokie will serve as a recycling
collection site for unwanted electronic items. The special
event will take place in the store parking lot on Friday,
        September 7 and Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
each day. The event is co-sponsored by the Solid Waste Agency
        of Northern Cook County (SWANCC).

Semi-trailers from System Service International (SSI) of
Lombard, Ill., will be staffed with personnel who will remove
items directly from vehicles. All collected items will be
recycled at no charge. Representatives from the non-profit
Time Dollar Institute will be present to determine if donated
items can be refurbished and given to area students who
        complete a peer-tutoring program.

Editor's note: b-roll and photos available. Call contact(s)
        for more information.

Accepted items: Computers, monitors, printers, fax machines,
TVs, stereos, camcorders, cellular phones, VCRs

Not accepted items: Microwaves, smoke detectors, large
household appliances, such as refrigerators and air
        conditioners

Why: The proper disposal of electronic items is an issue of
growing significance in America. Computers and televisions can
contain materials such as lead and mercury that can be harmful
to the environment if simply thrown in the trash. People
wanting to get rid of these items while remaining responsible
often are unsure about what to do or where to go.

Best Buy believes that completing the recycling loop is
everyone's responsibility - that's why the Company has come up
with a simple, fun and convenient program for recycling
electronics that protects the environment and raises awareness
        of recycling options.

Where: Best Buy at Touhy Ave. and Niles Ctr. Rd.
        Village Crossing Shopping Center
        Skokie, Illinois

Note: Village Crossing location only. No other Chicagoland
Best Buy stores will serve as recycling collection sites for
        this event.

      When: Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8 10 a.m. to 5
        p.m. each day
