"Z LAB" The Place Where Kids Race Against

the Clock to Create New Games

What is a "Z Lab" ?

"Z Lab" is the special workshop segment of Disney Channel's sports reality series Z Games, where four kids, ages 11-14, are put to the challenge of inventing an original "Z Game" within 20 minutes.

Exactly how does it work?

When a whistle blows, four kids run into a partitioned par·ti·tion

 room containing a barrel full of everyday items kids might find around the house. Grabbing one item each, they then go into the "laboratory" where they are instructed to make up a game together, establishing the rules and game name. At the end of 20 minutes, a whistle is blown again and these kids must explain their game.

What "stuff" is used?

The supplies range from traditional sports equipment (i.e. tennis balls, tennis racquets racquets, game played by two or four persons on a court 60 by 30 ft (18.3 m by 9.1 m); it is surrounded by three walls 30 ft (9.1 m) high and a backwall 15 ft (4.6 m) high. The ball, 1 in. (2.54 cm) in diameter, is made of polyethylene with an adhesive tape cover. , etc.) to household items (i.e. buckets, empty soda bottles, oven mitts and pasta drainers.) All the items are chosen from school kids across the country.
