WHAT: Outward Bound, Discovery Kids' reality-based adventure
series, which follows a group of kids on a two-week trek
through some of the world's toughest terrain, is looking for
real kids who aren't afraid of adventure to star in new
episodes. The new episodes, which may include expeditions to
Costa Rica and Colorado, will begin shooting in February,
2001.
Discovery Kids, a weekend programming block on the Discovery
Channel, is launching a nationwide search for eight "ordinary"
kids, ages 14-15, to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime
wilderness adventure. Kids who want to audition need no prior
acting experience -- just an enthusiasm for wilderness
camping, challenge, adventure and fun!
HOW: Discovery Kids has set up a special Toll-Free Hotline --
888/883-2023 -- so that any kid from anywhere in the country
can get more details. The deadline for kids to apply for this
once-in-a-lifetime adventure is January 1, 2001. Kids are
asked to send a video, 3-5 minutes long, expressing who they
are and why they think they will be a great OUTWARD BOUND
adventurer. Within their videos, kids are invited to detail
their favorite hobbies, special interests and activities, and
are required to include basic contact information, including
full name, address, telephone number, birth date, and name of
parent(s) or guardian(s). A note of permission from the parent
or guardian must also accompany the package.
WHEN: Kids can call the toll free number between December 9, 2000,
and January 1, 2001
WHY: Discovery Kids lets kids ages 6 and up explore the world
outside the schoolroom every weekend. The 9 a.m. to Noon
programming block on Saturdays and Sundays offers programs
that focus on Discovery Channel's signature areas of science,
adventure-exploration and natural history. Discovery Kids'
OUTWARD BOUND emphatically reaffirms that mission, providing a
unique viewing experience that both offers kids and their
families an opportunity to "share" once-in-a-lifetime
adventures and opens their eyes to a whole new way of looking
at the world.
