WHAT: MLK "Live the Vision" Celebration: - Dell is co-sponsoring
this special event for the sixth consecutive year with the
Austin Heritage Council, providing residents in the Greater
Austin area an opportunity to commemorate Dr. King's birthday
with their friends and family. The celebration begins with a
keynote and live music on Sunday, Jan. 12 followed by a rally
and march starting at Huston-Tillotson College on Monday,
Jan. 13. Tickets to Sunday's festivities are available through
area Albertsons stores and Star Tickets for $5, $10, and $15
each.
Thurmond Woodard, Dell's vice president of Global Diversity and
Chief Ethics Officer, is available this week to discuss the
event and community efforts to promote diversity and equality.
WHO: Keynote speaker: Ambassador Andrew Young - civil rights leader,
minister, public servant and business executive. Among
Ambassador Young's many accomplishments, he was a personal
confidant of Dr. King and personally walked with him in many of
his civil rights marches. He was also integral to Dr. King's
efforts to formulate civil rights strategies and he served as
vice president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Ambassador Young will speak about his personal relationship and
experiences with Dr. King and about his passion for equality.
