WHAT: DIRECTV Inc. today announced that it has added XETV (FOX)
to its local channel lineup in the San Diego designated
market area (DMA).
WHEN: XETV was available to San Diego DIRECTV customers
subscribing to the local channel package beginning late
Thursday, Oct. 19. Local channel service in the San Diego
DMA began June 30, 2000.
With the addition of XETV, DIRECTV customers in the
San Diego DMA will now receive the following local
channels via satellite:
-- KGTV (ABC)
-- KFMB (CBS)
-- KNSD (NBC)
-- XETV (FOX)
DIRECTV customers can subscribe to their local channel
package for $5.99 per month. In addition to local broadcast
network channels, a national PBS feed is included in each
local channel package at no additional charge.
Local channels from San Diego are delivered to DIRECTV
customers from DIRECTV's 119-degree West Longitude orbital
location. DIRECTV customers must purchase a new DIRECTV
PLUS(TM) System in order to receive programming from
multiple orbital locations -- local channels from 119
degrees and DIRECTV's core programming from 101 degrees.
The DIRECTV PLUS System features a multisatellite receiver,
18-by-24-inch oval satellite dish and remote control.
DIRECTV PLUS Systems are currently being manufactured by
Thomson Consumer Electronics under the RCA brand name and
Hughes Network Systems -- a sister company of DIRECTV --
under the HNS brand name.
