Bruce Schneier will join a select group of scholars and officials from the U.S. Air Force and the Department of Homeland Security to discuss best practices and strategies for ensuring accountability and security on the Internet. As the Internet matures, it becomes more vulnerable to crime (viruses, DOS attacks) and inappropriate behavior (spam, fraud, identity theft). Mr. Schneier and his colleagues will examine the benefits and risks of regulating the Internet and identify technologies and techniques for making Internet providers and users accountable to one another as opposed to top-down authorities. The panel will also discuss the key challenges of this approach and identify the proper roles individuals, companies, governments and other organizations must assume to ensure trust, accountability and increased security on the Internet.
