WHAT: Columbia Sportswear Company(R) (Nasdaq:COLM) chairwoman,
Gert Boyle is shoveling for charity on Friday, July 12 as part
of the 7th annual Yoshida's Sand in the City event held at
Pioneer Courthouse Square. Boyle will be at the square from 9
a.m. - 10 a.m. to cheer on the Columbia Sportswear team and
break ground or "sand" at the team's designated plot.
With the help of local architectural firm, MCA, Columbia
Sportswear has participated in the event for three years and
has won numerous awards including the Top of the Class Award
in 2001 and the Rookie of the Year Award in 2000.
Proceeds from the event benefit The Kids on the Block
Awareness Program, a non-profit educational program that uses
life-size puppets to help children learn to understand and
accept differences and how to protect themselves in difficult
situations. Currently, 64 specifically trained volunteer
puppeteers present 500 free programs at more than 140
Portland-area schools, reaching 62,000 children each year.
