Colorado groups Americans Against Terrorism; Colorado Clergy, Churches and Synagogues; and State Representative Debby Stafford will hold a press conferenceon Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. in room 326 in the State Capitol, to call for a protest against a planned speech in Colorado Springs by former PLO Spokesperson Hanan Ashrawi at a Colorado College forum entitled "September 11 -- One Year Later." Joining State Representative Debbie Stafford will be rally organizers Rabbi Bruce Dollin, Neil Dobro, Cheryl Morrison of Faith Bible Chapel, and other public officials.

Representative Stafford was co-author of a letter to President Richard Celeste of Colorado College which stated, in part: "We cannot help but express our dismay and disappointment for this totally inappropriate slap in the face to the memory of all who died and have suffered as a result of 9-11. The timing of this invitation is particularly egregious." Stafford recently reaffirmed her opposition to the speech by Ashrawi at the 9/11 forum in a nationally-televised exchange with President Celeste on CNN Sunday night.
