ADVISORY/City of West Hollywood Begins Installing Debris Screens to Help Reduce Ocean Pollution on Monday, May 5th.News Editors/Business Editors ADVISORY...for Monday Monday: see week. (May 5) WEST HOLLYWOOD West Hollywood A community of southern California northeast of Beverly Hills. It is mainly residential. Population: 36,600. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2003
WHAT: On Monday, May 5, 2003, the City of West Hollywood will
begin the installation of 40 debris screens on the curb-face
openings of storm drain catch basins along Santa Monica
Boulevard between Doheny Drive and Fairfax Avenue. These
devices serve to prevent the entry of trash and debris into
the storm drain system, thereby helping to prevent pollution
to the Santa Monica Bay.
Spawned from the pilot program last year funded by a grant
from the California Coastal Conservancy and in compliance with
the state storm water pollution reduction mandates, these
debris screens will decrease pollution flow to the storm drain
system while allowing proper flood protection when needed.
A major concern for health officials and water-loving
enthusiast alike in Los Angeles, storm drain pollution is a
major contributor to the ongoing poor water quality conditions
at beaches in the Santa Monica Bay and surrounding areas.
Debris screens help curb this problem.
The construction along Santa Monica Boulevard will be starting
from the east and moving west. The work will be performed
during early morning hours to minimize traffic disruption and
will be completed in approximately 2 weeks.
WHEN: Monday, May 5, 2003
WHERE: Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny and Fairfax in West
Hollywood
