      Union Attempting to Stop Public Safety Initiatives in Court

WHY:     The City of South Gate will hold a press conference to
         admonish the police union's attempts to resist recently
         implemented city policies designed to provide increased
         police presence and visibility enhanced public safety. New
         policies include a new five-day workweek schedule and a
         mandated uniform requirement for all officers (excluding
         undercover officers).

         The City will also announce emergency contingency
         preparations including going to court to protect the public's
         safety in response to threatened job actions on the part of
         the police union.
