ADVISORY/Christmas Tree Ship Gives Trees to Children of Families In Need.Feature Editors/Business Editors/Assignment Desks ADVISORY...for Friday (Dec. 5) CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 2003 The Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, Chicago's Christmas Ship, is scheduled to arrive at the Navy Pier in downtown Chicago, IL at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, loaded with Christmas trees Christmas tree Evergreen tree, usually decorated with lights and ornaments, to celebrate the Christmas season. The use of evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands as symbols of eternal life was common among the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Hebrews. for over 1000 children of families in need. and Police Boat escorts while Military High School band plays
9: 00am - Decorating commences
10:00am-12:00 noon- Public school children tour the USCGC MACKINAW
Saturday , December 6th
9:00am - USCGC MACKINAW commences unloading trees from Cutter under
direction of the Ship's Captain, Commander Joseph McGuiness.
9:15 am - Ceremony begins. Coast Guard Helicopter drops wreath 50
yards from the USCGC MACKINAW in memory of the Christmas Tree Ship
that perished in 1912, and all the ships and crews that have been lost
at sea. Presentation of Colors: General Colin Powell Division Color
Guard, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
9:30am - Captain Walter "Sonny" Lisowski, Chairman of Chicago's
Christmas Tree Committee presents trees to three families.
9:45 - Trucks depart with 1000 trees for needy Chicagoland children.
