WHAT: Dr. J.C. Chiao from Chorum Technologies in Richardson,
Texas, will present "Next-Generation Components" at the
2001 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) and
Quantum Electronics and Laser Science (QELS). CLEO/QELS is
widely recognized as the world's most significant
conference and this is also the world's largest exhibit on
lasers and electro-optics in North America. Dr. Chiao's
presentation is part of the CLEO/QELS Lasers and
Electro-Optics Applications Program (LEAP), which presents
a distinguished group of speakers who explore technology
and business areas in fiber optics and photonics. The
CLEO/QELS conference is managed by the Optical Society of
America.
WHO: Dr. Jung-Chih (J.C.) Chiao, Senior Technology Advisor,
Chorum Technologies
Dr. Chiao is Chorum Technologies' senior technology
advisor for liquid crystal products, including
attenuators, switches, cross connects, attenuator arrays,
harmonic equalizers and advanced optical processors. Prior
to Chorum he served as a research scientist at Telcordia
in the Optical Networking Systems and Testbeds group. He
also was an assistant professor and is now an adjunct
professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering,
University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Chiao has published 53
technical journal and conference papers. He is one of the
authors of the book Active and Quasi-Optical Arrays and
holds 14 pending patents in RF MEMS, MEMS optics and
liquid crystal technologies. In 1995, he received his
Ph.D. from the MMIC group in the Department of Electrical
Engineering at the California Institute of Technology.
