WHAT: Dr. J.C. Chiao from Chorum Technologies in Richardson,
Texas, is the guest speaker and will make his presentation,
All Optical Signal Processing, at the 4th Friday Optics &
Photonics Luncheon Series. The Metroplex Technology Business
Council (MTBC) sponsors the series, in cooperation with The
International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) and The
University of Texas at Dallas Photonic Technology and
Engineering, or PhoTec, Center. The MTBC presents leading
speakers from the emerging industry of optics and photonics.
The Telecom Corridor(R) has grown within the last two years
to include more than 100 companies in optics and photonics.
WHO: Dr. Chiao is the senior technology advisor and product line
manager for Chorum Technologies. He also was an assistant
professor and is now an adjunct professor in the Department
of Electrical Engineering, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Prior to his university experience, he served as a research
scientist at Telcordia in the Optical Networking Systems and
Testbeds group. Dr. Chiao has published 74 technical journals
and conference papers. He is one of the authors of the book
Active and Quasi-Optical Arrays and the editor of the book
Device and Process Technologies for MEMS and
Microelectronics. He holds one patent and 13 pending patents
in RF MEMS, MEMS optics and liquid-crystal technologies. He
was the chairman for the SPIE 2001 International Micro/MEMS
Device and Process Technologies for MEMS and Microelectronics
Conference, and a chairman for the 2002 SMTA/IMAPS Telecom
Hardware Solutions Conference. He received his Ph.D. from the
MMIC group in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the
California Institute of Technology in 1995.
