(Aug. 1) --(BUSINESS WIRE) Invited Paper Presented at IEEE/LEOS Summer Topical topical /top·i·cal/ (top´i-k'l) pertaining to a particular area, as a topical antiinfective applied to a certain area of the skin and affecting only the area to which it is applied. top·i·cal adj. Meetings in Copper Mountain, Colo. WHAT: Dr. J.C. Chiao from Chorum Technologies in Richardson, Texas, will present his invited paper on liquid-crystal optical harmonic equalizers at 2001 IEEE/LEOS Summer Topical Meetings in Copper Mountain, Colo. The Summer Topical Meeting Series is sponsored, organized and managed by the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society to facilitate information exchange between technical communities using or affected by rapidly growing areas of technology. Summer Topicals 2001 consists of four meetings (Advanced Semiconductor Lasers and Application; Ultraviolet and Blue Lasers and their Applications; Ultralong Haul DWDM Transmission and Networking; and WDM Components) running simultaneously over the course of 3 days, July 30 to August 1: In his paper for WDM Components, Dr. Chiao will discuss the functionality and performance of an optical harmonic equalizer for dynamic gain equalization and manipulation using all-optical liquid-crystal modulators and the harmonic synthesis approach. WHO: Dr. Jung-Chih (J.C.) Chiao, Senior Technology Advisor, Chorum Technologies: Dr. Chiao is Chorum Technologies' senior technology advisor for liquid crystal products, including attenuators, switches, cross connects, attenuator arrays, harmonic equalizers and advanced optical processors. Prior to Chorum he served as a research scientist at Telcordia in the Optical Networking Systems and Testbeds group. He also was an assistant professor and is now an adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Chiao has published 53 technical journals and conference papers. He is one of the authors of the book Active and Quasi-Optical Arrays and holds 14 pending patents in RF MEMS, MEMS optics and liquid-crystal technologies. In 1995, he received his Ph.D. from the MMIC group in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. WHEN: Wednesday, August 1, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon WHERE: Session WD2, Dynamic Gain Equalization Techniques and Devices II Copper Mountain Resort 209 Ten Mile Circle Copper Mountain, Colorado 80443 1-888-219-2441 ABOUT CHORUM: Chorum Technologies is a leading provider of all-optical processors and subsystems in the fast-growing fiber-optics market. Chorum Technologies' PolarWave(TM) family of optical filtering, switching, routing and processing technologies enables networks that are faster, more flexible and more cost effective.
