WHAT: American Plastics Council (APC) and the San Diego SAFE Kids
Coalition are sponsoring a Children's Safety Day to raise public
consciousness to help prevent unintentional childhood injuries --
the number one killer of children ages 14 and under. The San Diego
Police Department will be conducting a child's safety seat check
Free to the public. The Media is invited to help raise public
awareness for children's safety.
WHEN: Friday, May 12, 2000, from 12:30p.m - 4:00p.m.
WHERE: St. Stephen's Church, 5825 Imperial Ave., San Diego
WHAT YOU CAN SEE:
-- Representatives of the SAFE Kids Coalition and APC providing
information about how children's safety devices, most notably
those made of plastic, have helped reduce by 46% the death
rate from unintentional injury among children ages 14 and
under.
-- A 12:30pm dedication and installation ceremony for a new
recycled plastic playground set donated by the American
Plastics Council (APC). Invited speakers include Pastor Bishop
McKinney, San Diego City Councilman George Stevens and state
and local Legislators.
-- The SAFE Kids Coalition will offer to the public free
child/infant safety inspections to ensure proper installation
WHY: The event is part of an APC/SAFE KIDS effort to raise public
consciousness of the many plastic safety devices that have helped
protect children from injury.
