Last month, police at Yale's teaching hospital arrested 8 workers. They were passing out leaflets to their own co-workers at their own worksite. They have been charged with criminal trespassing and face up to one year in prison.

Yale University is the largest employer in New Haven, CT. For over a year, 4,000 Yale service and clerical workers have been fighting for a contract. Another 4,000 hospital and graduate employees are struggling for the right to organize a union.

Yale President Richard Levin has refused to sit down and talk with the workers who want the right to organize, according to officials at HERE Local 34. The workers want a fair organizing process, including neutrality from Yale. President Levin is calling for an NLRB election at Yale, while also urging other universities to appeal their NLRB elections in the federal courts.

In support of the workers at Yale, HERE Local 1 members in Chicago and their supporters will protest outside a Yale alumni cocktail reception, at which Yale President Levin is scheduled to speak.
