The new Internet See Web 2.0 and Internet2.  payment option by credit card expands on a program launched in 1999 which enabled taxpayers to make payments by credit card via telephone through Official Payments Corp., by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX. During the first three quarters of 2000, Official Payments Corp. processed and collected over $630 million in federal balance-due, estimated, and extension tax payments on behalf of individual taxpayers making payments to the IRS.

The IRS has included instructions on the credit card payment option in tax instruction booklets.
