Local Women On Welfare to Benefit From Retailer's Award-winning

Program to Clothe 2,000 California Women in 2000

Her mother was a classical pianist and her father, while often being absent from the family life, was a Haitian photographer and political activist.  (Boy Meets World) and Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man, Predator 2) will join celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch aboard the nationally renowned Mervyn's California Community Closet to clothe 130 local women transitioning off welfare. The Community Closet --a 72-foot tractor-trailer converted into a department store-on-wheels-- gives away free brand new Hillard & Hanson career wear to women working to get off welfare. Mervyn's will kick off the event with an 11:00 a.m. press conference May 9th at the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Central Library, 630 West 5th Street, (truck will be parked on Flower Street between 5th and 6th streets).

The women who participate in Mervyn's Community Closet program are pre-selected by local nonprofit A corporation or an association that conducts business for the benefit of the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive.

. The mission of the Community Closet is simple: Enhance the marketability of women making the transition from public assistance to the workforce by providing free, brand new clothes that go a long way to improving self-esteem and motivation and ultimately lead to successful employment.
