WHEN: Sunday, April 1, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
WHY: For more than 50 years, Mario Toti has been bartending in
the Los Angeles area, including stints at such legendary
lounges/restaurants as The Rountable and Broken Drum in
Santa Monica, Bess Eilers in Beverly Hills, the Lindermar
Lodge in Pacific Palisades, and his own The Sportmen's in
Santa Monica.
During this time, "Toti," as he's fondly known, constantly
dispensed his rare blend of humor, social and political
commentary, movie reviews and fall-over jokes to a legion of
loyal followers in an unmistakeable Rhode Island accent you
couldn't cut with a chain saw. Among celebrities Toti served
and befriended over the years were Pat O'Brien and Patrick
McGoohan.
On April 1, many of the friends and customers Toti served
will help celebrate his birthday at Rooke's.
