Who: Objectivity, Inc., in association with the University of Wales,
Cardiff
What: Objectivity and Cardiff jointly announce the Workshop on High
Performances Object Databases to bring together a
multidisciplinary group to investigate the use of object databases
in large-scale applications.
Several topics will be covered, including (but not limited to)
object databases in large-scale applications and in particular
looking at aspects of scalability and support for large quantities
of data; applications of object databases within emerging areas
such as real time, mobile and embedded systems; techniques for
managing objects in large databases, employing object-oriented
paradigms rather than an object-relational or relational
paradigms; and performance management approaches that may utilise
constraints to support application scalability.
There will be two themes covering two days. The Research Theme
will be dedicated to research that investigates techniques for
achieving some of the goals suggested by the workshop; papers that
bridge disciplines or combine theory and practice are especially
welcome. The Applications Theme will be dedicated to current
applications of object databases. Authors are encouraged to submit
both short and long statements that describe their particular
experiences of using object-oriented approaches for managing data
using Objectivity or other similar database management systems.
Scheduled speakers include Professor Keith Jeffery from Rutherford
Appleton Laboratory, Dr. Akmal Chaudhri from Informix Software and
Leon Guzenda from Objectivity, Inc. Additional speaker information
will be updated via the workshop's Web site.
There will also be a short Objectivity User Group meeting where
current users can discuss their particular experiences with the
Objectivity/DB software. Details of joining the Objectivity
University Programme will also be available to potential academic
members who would like to participate.
When: Thursday, July 20, and Friday, July 21, 2000.
Where: The workshop will take place at the Newport Road Site of the
University of Wales, Cardiff in the Trevithick Building. For more
details, including hotel information, visit the workshop's Web
site at http://www.cs.cf.ac.uk/hipod2000.
