    One of America's Best-Known Painters Pays Tribute To His Friend
   Rudolf Nureyev in Exhibition of Paintings, Photographs, Designs

WHO:   Join renowned American artist JAMES WEYTH for a tour of the
       exhibition.  He will be available to talk about his art and
       his friendship with legendary dancer RUDOLF NUREYEV.
       Also scheduled:

       Victoria Woodhull, Associate Director, Farnsworth Art Museum
       Barbara Cohen-Stratyner, Curator of Exhibitions, The

       Farnsworth Art Museum
       Madeleine Nichols, Curator, Jerome Robbins Dance Division,
       The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts

WHAT:  Capturing Nureyev: James Wyeth Paints the Dancer
       features over 35 paintings and drawings. The exhibition
       also includes costumes, designs, and over 60 photographs
       from the Jerome Robbins Dance Division of The New
       York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

       Wyeth met Nureyev in 1977 and spent a year observing
       and painting the dancer backstage, in rehearsals,
       and in performances. Over time, the painter and the
       dancer began to understand each other's art and the
       process became more of a collaborative effort.
       Nureyev allowed Wyeth unprecedented access into the
       private portions of his very public life, while
       Wyeth and his wife offered Nureyev the sanctuary of
       real friendship.

Capturing Nureyev: James Wyeth Paints the Dancer is on view
March 22 through May 25, 2002.
Admission is FREE. Exhibition hours are Monday and Thursday from
12 noon to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 12
noon to 6 p.m. (closed Sunday).
