 Science Scholars Program will announce eight new recipients chosen from among the country's best university students in the environmental sciences, as well as a 3 million dollar commitment by Canon U.S.A., Inc., to expand the program to students throughout the Americas. This prestigious Ph.D. scholarship program encourages doctoral students to conduct innovative research on scientific problems critical to the national parks.

2001 Competition - The $75,000 scholarship awards are based on a competition in which students submit research proposals on specific research topics/questions chosen by the National Park Service. The proposals are reviewed and winners selected by the American Association for the Advancement of Science American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), private organization devoted to furthering the work of scientists and improving the effectiveness of science in the promotion of human welfare.  (AAAS AAAS American Association for the Advancement of Science. ).

The Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program was established in 1997 to develop the next generation of scientists working in the fields of conservation, environmental science and park management.
