ADVISORY/Cancer Patients Learn About Latest Technologies and Techniques to Deal With Their Pain.

ADVISORY... for Tuesday (Nov. 19)


    WHAT: With spouses and/or other family members, cancer patients
        will meet at the American Cancer Society to learn about
        medications and new ways to deliver them. They'll also discuss
        neurostimulation and alternative therapies to blunt their pain
        and make their lives better.

    WHEN: Tuesday, November 19, 10 a.m - 1 p.m.

    WHERE: American Cancer Society Eastern Division, Inc., 19 West
        56th St. New York


SUMMARY

This will be an opportunity for media representatives to interview cancer patients about their pain and the growing number of pain management therapies. Some patients will be doing well on traditional medications but some will also be "more-difficult" patients - those who've tried many treatments. Some of the latter now have drug infusion systems implanted in their bodies to deliver precisely controlled doses of pain medication directly to the tumor site or a spot where it can block the pain signals. Some have neurostimulators that interrupt pain impulses with electrical impulses. Others use alternative or holistic techniques.

It will also be an opportunity to hear two speakers updating the patients on advanced pain management:
