OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003

Proposition 54, known formally as "Classification by Race, Ethnicity ethnicity Vox populi Racial status–ie, African American, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic , Color or National Origin," and informally as the "Racial Privacy Initiative," will appear on the next ballot. It might broadly affect many aspects of state and local government by restricting collection of data or classification of individuals by race or ethnicity.

The potential impact of Prop 54 on health care and health care research is the topic of a forum co-hosted by the Commonwealth Club and the California HealthCare Foundation as part of their California Health Policy Speakers series.

Featured are initiative author Ward Connerly Wardell Connerly (born June 15, 1939) is a political activist, businessman, and former University of California Regent. He is also the founder and the chairman of the American Civil Rights Institute, a national non-profit organization in opposition to racial and gender preferences. , founder and chairman of the America Civil Rights Institute, and Jack Lewin, executive vice president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of the California Medical Association, who will present concerns of the health care community.
