WHAT: Buzztime Entertainment Inc. announced the company was
named as one of the four finalists for the 2nd annual
Bandies Awards, the broadband industry's premier awards,
in the category of "Killer App." The Bandies Awards
celebrate the creative evolution of the world's most
important medium and each nominee reflects the leading
role of major cable television networks in developing
interactive programming.
Buzztime Entertainment Inc. is nominated for developing
an economic model that increases cable subscriber revenue
and reduces digital churn for cable operators through the
BUZZTIME(TM) channel. Digital subscribers are offered
Countdown(R) general trivia for free and may also preview
five additional broadcasts such as Sports Trivia(R), Kids
Only Trivia(TM) and TV Trivia that customers may subscribe
to for a nominal monthly fee that is shared between the
cable operator and Buzztime Entertainment.
The BUZZTIME(TM) channel has already amassed a large
following of trivia fans via the NTN Network of 3,500
restaurants and sports bars, the Internet as well as
mobile phones. Now providing content for the cable
industry, Buzztime Entertainment designed the channel to
appeal to every household family member, and can be
distributed simultaneously to all subscribing cable
systems, encouraging players to compete in real-time with
families across the street or across the country.
Based in Carlsbad, Calif., Buzztime Entertainment Inc.,
with investment from Scientific-Atlanta Inc., produces
BUZZTIME(TM), the interactive television trivia channel,
and live sports predictions games such as QB1(R) Predict
the Play(TM) football from its live interactive broadcast
studio. Buzztime's partners include: Scientific-Atlanta,
AT&T Interactive Television, Sun Java TV, Sprint PCS
Wireless Web, Yahoo!, and the NTN Network.
WHEN: Winners will be announced at The Bandies 2001 Awards gala
beginning at 8 p.m. PT on Nov. 28.
WHERE: The award ceremony will be held at The Sun Theatre in
Anaheim, Calif. Developed with the support and
collaboration of the California Cable Television
Association (CCTA), the event is being co-marketed with
The Western Show, the broadband industry's leading trade
show scheduled for Nov. 27-30 at the Anaheim Convention
Center.
