DETAILS: Bestowed annually by the Broadcasters' Foundation for
more than a quarter century, the Golden Mike honors
outstanding contributions to radio and television. The
Broadcasters' Foundation gives anonymous financial aid
to radio and television personnel who have fallen on
hard times through no fault of their own. The
Foundation reaches out across the United States to
identify and assist in cases of critical illness,
advanced age, death of a spouse, accident or other
serious misfortune. In the past three years the
Broadcasters' Foundation has given more than
half-a-million dollars in direct aid.
2003 HONOREE:
Bob Wright joined NBC as president and CEO on
September 1, 1986. He was named chairman and CEO on
June 4, 2001. One of the longest-serving network
chiefs, Wright's career is notable for many
accomplishments. During his stewardship of NBC, the
company's revenue more than doubled while its profit
jumped nearly 300 percent. NBC is now a leader in
international delivery of business news, reaching 198
million households worldwide with its CNBC cable
network. NBC, the only consistently profitable
traditional TV network, now leads its rivals in among
the key demographic audience groups most attractive to
advertisers in all key day parts.
