ADVISORY...for Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath. (May 6) --(BUSINESS WIRE)
WHEN: Saturday, May 6, 2000 - 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
WHAT: Bonnets and Bow Ties Party at the Willard Inter-Continental
Hotel's Round Robin Bar to benefit the Henry Clay
Scholarship Fund
WHY: In 1820, on the site of the Willard (the old Fuller's City
Hotel), Kentucky Senator Henry Clay introduced
Washingtonians to their first "Mint Julep" in what is now
the Round Robin bar. Jim Hewes, Bar Manager, has been
mixing up and serving Clay's handwritten recipe of the Mint
Julep to Willard Inter-Continental Hotel patrons for 14
years. Every year, this cocktail is the centerpiece of the
Kentucky Derby Party at the Round Robin.
WHAT
ELSE: This year, a $20 registration fee will get guests entry
into the "Best Bonnet" and "Most Bodacious Bow Tie
competition," a complimentary beverage, commemorative
glass, traditional Derby buffet of baked ham, biscuits and
Derby Pie, and participation in all the raffles and door
prizes. The award for "Best Bonnet" is an overnight at the
Willard Inter-Continental. The award for "Most Bodacious
Bow Tie" is Dinner for Two in The Willard Room. All
registration fee proceeds will benefit the Henry Clay
Scholarship Fund care of The D.C. Friends of Kentucky
Society.
The event is co-sponsored by Maker's Mark (Bill Samuels,
Owner) and Frog's Leap Vineyards.
