Tensions Building Between Black Farmers and United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.

WHAT:  The Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association (BFAA) and
       United Farmers of America (UFA) will join forces to host an
       organizational rally protesting what they cite as continued
       discrimination against black farmers from the United States
       government and Ann Veneman, agriculture secretary of the USDA.

       The event is expected to draw several thousand farmers from
       Richmond and surrounding states. Subsequent rallies will be
       held in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Florida, North Carolina,
       South Carolina, and Tennessee. A massive march in
       Washington, D.C. is scheduled for Spring 2004.

       10:00 a.m. - 1 p.m.

       Topics to be addressed will include:

        --  Update on recent legislation efforts on behalf of black
            farmers

        --  Update on lawsuit and future legal plans, including
            Pigford incident

        --  Organizational plans for Black Farmers March on Washington

            Officials
