(Nov. 20) --(BUSINESS WIRE) Bay Street Project Transforms Unusable Wasteland to "Downtown Downtown (called a "city centre" in British English) is a term used in North America when referring to a city's core, usually both in a geographical and commercial / community sense. " for City of Emeryville
WHAT: Madison Marquette and California Urban Investment Partners'
Bay Street project, the 20-acre mixed-use urban village next
to IKEA, will open its first phase of retail stores and
restaurants on November 20. This will mark the first
opportunity for the public to experience Emeryville's new main
street where residents and visitors will gather to shop, dine
and have fun. Not long ago, the Bay Street site was considered
an unusable industrial wasteland, formerly housing a pesticide
manufacturing plant and a pigment factory. The city of
Emeryville's $27 million massive public cleanup effort was one
of the nation's most ambitious examples of recycling
"brownfields" -- urban industrial lands shunned because of
real contamination. The site has now been transformed into
Emeryville's new urban village.
The first phase will include Asqew Grill, Williams-Sonoma,
Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, J. Jill, Old Navy, Harry &
David, Express, Victoria's Secret, Apple Computer, Ann Taylor
Loft, Godiva, Aerosoles, The Body Shop, Chico's, Franklin
Covey, Magnolia Hi-Fi, Aaron Brothers and Sunglass Hut. 24
additional stores and restaurants will open during November
and December including a 16-screen AMC Theater set to open on
December 18. Once complete, Bay Street will feature more than
65 shops, nine indoor/outdoor restaurants, a 16-screen AMC
Theater, 284 apartments, 82 townhouses and a 230-room hotel.
The project comprises three city blocks connected by Bay
Street, a traditional main street.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 20, at 10 a.m.
WHERE: Bay Street
5600 Shellmound Street (next to IKEA)
