 Shabazz who instinctively sprung into action. Det. Shabazz leaped up the descending stairs and managed not only to stop the attack on the officer, but also to handcuff the suspect -- possibly saving the bleeding officer's life. Despite the risk to his own life, Det. Shabazz says his only thought at the time was, "I'd hate to have to fight him by myself."

On Tuesday, February 17th, at 1 p.m., BART invites the public to the MetroCenter at 101 Eighth Street in Oakland to honor people like Det. Shabazz and other officers, along with BART employees and civilians who took action despite the risks to keep BART safe.
