ADVISORY/At-Risk Youth Discover Alternatives to Gangs and Drugs During All-Day Tour of the Van Nuys Airport.

WHO:     More than 90 at-risk youth from North Hills will discover
         alternatives to gangs and drugs during an all-day tour of the
         Van Nuys Airport.  Councilman Joel Wachs will join airport
         tenants to announce a new aviation scholarship program and
         present representatives from the nonprofit organization
         Bridge Focus with funds for substance-abuse, community-
         empowerment and crisis-intervention programs.

WHAT:    The tour, sponsored by the San Fernando Valley nonprofit
         organization Bridge Focus, will include hands-on workshop
         experience at the airport's aircraft-mechanics school, the
         opportunity to climb aboard and view unique aircraft displays
         and lunch in an airfield hangar.  Airport employees in
         various occupations will be on hand to share their personal
         stories of achievement with teenagers living in areas plagued
         by high crime and gang activity.

WHEN:    Thursday, Nov.5
         9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

         9:30 a.m.      Event kick off, check presentation and
                        facility tour of L.A.U.S.D./North Valley
                        Occupational Center Aircraft Mechanics School.
                        Councilman Wachs and students will perform
                        mechanics work on an actual airplane.

         10:45 a.m.     Tour of Pacific Holding Co. and The Air Group.
                        Students tour corporate flight department,
                        climb onboard jet and hear employees' personal
                        stories of achievement.

         Noon           Lunch in Clay Lacy Aviation hangar.  Students
                        tour modern and vintage aircraft displays and
                        meet legendary pilot Clay Lacy.

         1:15 p.m.      Tour of the Jet Center, the airport's largest
                        employer.  Students get an up-close view of
                        various craftspeople performing aircraft
                        refurbishment work.
