What: What do CDs and DVDs, Buzz Aldrin's space visor, cell
phones, the canopy of an F-15, NFL football helmets,
refrigerator crisper drawers, the observatory at the
Empire State Building and computer housings all have in
common?
They have all been made out of a uniquely strong and
versatile material called LEXAN(R) polycarbonate resin. On
Wednesday, January 29, 2003, General Electric, astronaut
Buzz Aldrin, NFL superstars Ottis Anderson, Marty Lyons,
Wesley Walker and Carl Banks, and hundreds of New York
City school children, will gather to commemorate the 50th
anniversary of the invention of LEXAN(R) resin.
Why: To celebrate the 50th birthday of LEXAN(R), GE is hosting
an interactive "Innovation Day" event for hundreds of
school children from New York City and its boroughs. The
event will feature celebrities, interactive displays,
educational activities, games and a LEXAN(R) product
museum, and will highlight how innovation and imaginative
thinking shapes our everyday lives.
As part of the event, GE will provide grants to four New
York City public schools to promote innovation by
enhancing their current science programs and building new
science lab facilities.
Who: In addition to over 500 4th and 5th grade children from
New York City's public schools, a variety of celebrity
figures will be on hand to participate in the event
festivities, including:
ASTRONAUT - Dr. Buzz Aldrin
FOOTBALL PLAYERS - Ottis Anderson, Marty Lyons, Wesley
Walker and Carl Banks
BATTLEBOTS - TerrorHurtz and KillerHurtz
