WHAT: City Councilman Tom LaBonge will officially dedicate the new
water system at Griffith Park and turn over the operation of
the system to the Los Angeles Department of Water from the
Department of Recreation and Parks. The new system will ensure
a more reliable supply of water and will provide better fire
protection to the park and its surrounding community.

WHY: Griffith Park's water system, built between the 1920s and
1950s, was in constant need of repair. The deteriorating
system compromised the park's water quality, supply and
ability to provide fire protection. As a result of a joint
effort by City departments and the community, the LADWP
redesigned and rebuilt the water system and will take over
ownership.
