ADVISORY/As City and Teams Discuss Construction Financing, Giles, Keating and Others To Debate Stadium Controversies.
--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- -0-
What: With Philadelphia now developing a financing package for
new Eagles and Phillies stadiums, the need for -- and
benefits of -- these new sports complexes will be
debated by an elite panel of key players and experts at
a Drexel University-sponsored symposium: "If
You Build It, Will They Come?"
When: Tuesday, Oct, 6, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Where: Grand Hall of Drexel's Creese Student Center, 3200
Chestnut St.
Background: This symposium will focus on the relationship between
professional sports franchises, their fans, and the
cities they call home. It will address the controversy
surrounding stadiums, as franchises sometimes hold
cities hostage by sometimes threatening to leave
unless a palatial new sports facility is built.
The public has been invited to attend and participate in
the symposium, co-hosted by Drexel and Mid-Atlantic
Center of the National Consortium on Academics and
Sports (NCAS), which is housed on Drexel's campus.
Who: Among the symposium panelists:
Bill Giles, Chairman of the Phillies
Dan Keating, Bala Cynwyd developer pushing for new
stadium
Robert Castronovo VP of the New Jersey Sports and
Exposition Authority
John Simurgyn, Public Affairs, NJSEA
Evans Paull, executive planner, City of Baltimore
Mark Rosentraub, author of Major League Losers
Arthur Bernsetin of USFans
Andrew Zimbalist, Smith College, noted author on topic
Neil DeMause, author, "Field of Schemes"
Jonathan Saidel, Philadelphia City Controller
Jon Morgan of the Baltimore Sun
