What: The U.S. Army and Pepsi Bottling Group will announce an

agreement to provide priority hiring status to qualified

soldiers participating in the Partnership for Youth Success

Program (PaYS).

Pepsi Bottling Group, the largest soft drink distributor of

Pepsi-Cola beverages worldwide, plans to fill up to 700 jobs

with soldiers completing their initial tour in the Army over

the next three years. Exiting soldiers will have completed two

years of job training and receive accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

PaYS is a new strategic program between the Army and cross

sections of U.S. industries. It was conceived in conjunction

with several other programs that were designed to help the

Army attract, train and deploy talented young people. The

Army's new recruiting practices have resulted in a 17 percent

increase in productivity with 12,000 more recruits than this

time last year.

The Pepsi Bottling Group is the second major corporation to

join the PaYS program since its introduction in July 2000.
