ADVISORY/Alternative Medicine Gains Popularity Among Older Americans.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2000
TOPIC: A survey, published in the December issue of the Journal of the American
Geriatrics Society, found that 30 percent of Americans age 65 and older are
using alternative medicine in addition to conventional treatment, as reported
by Reuters Health. The survey was conducted at the Center for Alternative
Medicine Research and Education at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in
Boston, Massachusetts. The survey, which consisted of 2,055 people, also found
that 20 percent have gone to alternative medicine providers, including
chiropractors. Experts allege that older Americans should tell their
conventional medical providers about any additional alternative medicine
treatments as older Americans may be at risk of prescription drug and herb
interactions, the article states. EXPERTS: ExpertSource can offer several
