WHAT: Abilities Expo/Northern California, the one show
dedicated to educating and improving the lives of people
with disabilities, senior citizens, their families &
caregivers, as well as healthcare and education
professionals. The three-day event will take place at the
San Mateo County Expo Center in San Mateo, CA from
Friday, November 14 and continue through Sunday, November
16, 2003. Some of the show highlights include:
-- The show floor and educational program will provide
attendees a chance to discover and learn about new
products and services - from computers to athletic
equipment and mobility products to daily living aids
- all conveniently displayed to see, test and
compare. Exhibiting companies include Independence
Technology, a Johnson & Johnson Company, Ford Motor
Company, Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis
Resource Center, Permobil, Freedom Motors USA, Far
West Wheelchair Sports, Special Olympics of Northern
California, and many others.
-- Independence Technology, a Johnson & Johnson Company
will feature the recently approved iBOT Mobility
System, at various times throughout the event. The
iBOT(TM) Mobility System, which recently received
Food and Drug Administration approval will provide
new levels of personal freedom and accessibility for
people with disabilities. The iBOT(TM) Mobility
System is a unique gyro-balanced mobility device that
has been designed to operate on four wheels or two
wheels, stabilizing the user by automatically
adjusting and balancing itself.
-- A conference program designed to discuss and touch on
issues and challenges and address them in a healthy
and productive way. The educational curriculum
developed focuses on relevant topics addressing life
today for individuals with disabilities, their family
and caregivers. The educational workshops include:
Paralysis research clinical trials and reasons for
hope; New approaches to therapy for children with
cerebral palsy; Assistive Technology for home and
work; Stem cell research: Applications to diseases
and disorders of the central nervous system; and,
much more.
-- Regionally based organizations that work with the
disabled will also be participating including, the
California Department of Rehabilitation, the
California Telephone Access Program, California for
Disability Rights, and Disability Dealer of
California and Nevada.
