WHAT: Abilities Expo/New York Metro is the one show dedicated
to educating and improving the lives of people with
disabilities, senior citizens, their families &
caregivers, as well as healthcare and education
professionals. The three-day event will take place at the
New Jersey Convention & Expo Center, Edison, NJ from
Friday, April 16 and continue through Sunday, April 18,
2004. Some of the show highlights include:
-- Attendees will have a chance to discover and learn about
new products and services - from computers to athletic
equipment and mobility products to daily living aids - all
conveniently displayed to see, test and compare.
Exhibiting companies include Invacare, Christopher and
Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center, Assistive Technology
Advocacy Center of NJP&A, Monmouth Vans, Access &
Mobility, Canine Companions for Independence; and, many
others.
-- For the first time at the New York Metro event,
Independence Technology, a Johnson & Johnson Company will
feature the recently FDA approved iBOT Mobility System.
The iBOT(TM) Mobility System is providing new levels of
personal freedom and accessibility for people with
disabilities.
-- The educational curriculum developed by Carmen Jones, the
new conference director for the event, focuses on relevant
topics addressing life today for individuals with
disabilities, their family and caregivers. The educational
workshops include: Repair of the Injured Spinal Cord,
Travel Tips by Air presented by Delta's Disability Program
Leader, Planning for the Future of Children with Special
Needs, and, much more.
-- Local and regionally based organizations that work with
people with disabilities will also be participating
including, the New Jersey Council on Developmental
Disabilities, the New Jersey Division of Disability
Services, the Spina Bifida Association - Tri-State Region,
and Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey.
-- A limited number of loaner power wheelchairs, sponsored by
Permobil, and a limited number of loaner scooters,
sponsored by Coastal Surgical & Mobility, will be
available, free-of-charge, for use while at the show.
Equipment will be available on a first-come, first-served
basis through the registration area (reservations are not
accepted).
