Community college enrollments have skyrocketed in the face of a slow economy. Younger and older students alike are trying to upgrade their knowledge and skills in pursuit of better, higher-paying careers. But with many states still debating budgets to fund higher education higher education

Study beyond the level of secondary education. Institutions of higher education include not only colleges and universities but also professional schools in such fields as law, theology, medicine, business, music, and art.

Who and What:

The Association of Community College Trustees (www.acct.org), based in Washington, D.C., and higher education technology-services provider Collegis (www.collegis.com), based in suburban Orlando, Fla., will conduct a survey of regional community college trustees and presidents regarding workforce development, funding sources and technology use on college campuses. ACCT hosts its regional leadership conference this week in Tampa.

When and Where:

The press conference to announce the results of the survey will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, in Meeting Room 5 of the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina, Tampa, Fla. Several local and national leaders will be available to respond to questions from media members, including: Richard N. Adams, ACCT chairman; Ray Taylor Ray Taylor has been the name of two characters from EastEnders.

This survey of ACCT leaders from the Southern and Northeast region, representing 21 states, will provide the first such compilation of the goals and possible trends developing among community college administrators with regard to economic and workforce development. Survey results will also indicate preferred funding sources for community college growth and efficiency and the technology needs for improved teaching and learning in online and in-class academic environments. A similar survey will be conducted next week at the ACCT Pacific, Western and Central regional conference to be held in San Francisco, Calif.
