Scenic and challenging Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course in La
Jolla, Calif., plays host to the 70th Annual San Diego County Open,
Nov. 18-20. The event is conducted by The Southern California and
San Diego PGA.

There are a limited number of PGA-sanctioned events in Southern
California, and the San Diego County Open is one of them. It also
boasts being one of the oldest pro tournaments in the state. It has
served as a stepping stone for many pros on their way to the PGA Tour.

The winners list is a veritable who's who of professional golf. Past
champions of the Open include:  Sam Snead, 1943; Gene Littler, 1949 &
1952; Billy Casper, 1953-54; and others.

The tournament starts with a Pro-Am on Monday, Nov. 16 at Torrey Pines
Municipal Golf Course, South Course, noon. Pro-Am and Open entry
deadline is Monday, Nov. 9. Proceeds to benefit The Naval Academy
Alumni Association. The event features a $50,000 Professional Purse,
with $7,500 for first place.

Torrey Pines is perched on cliffs nearly 300 feet above the shores
of the Pacific Ocean. Opened in 1957, it is comprised of the historic
36-hole South Course and the shorter North Course. Both have been used
annually by the PGA Tour since 1968 when Tom Weiskopf won the
inaugural Andy Williams San Diego Open.

Today, the courses host the prestigious Junior World Championship and
the PGA Tour's Buick Invitational. The San Diego County Open is
