News Advisory:

Up to fifty California State University, Fresno The campus sits at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the San Joaquin Valley. Fresno County is the sixth largest metropolitan area in California. The university is within an hour's drive of many mountain and lake resorts and within a three- or four-hour drive of both Los  students will compete in the Western Region Taquito Eating Championship on Thursday, April 19, 12 PM at The South Patio (outside Student Activities Building on Campus), to qualify for the 2001 National Taquito Eating Championship Finals.

The male and female who can eat 10 El Monterey Chicken or Shredded shred

 Beef Flour Taquitos in the fastest time will be declared the Western Region Winners.

Dates and Universities for the four Regional competitions are:

Southern Region: April 17: University of Florida University of Florida is the third-largest university in the United States, with 50,912 students (as of Fall 2006) and has the eighth-largest budget (nearly $1.9 billion per year). UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes.  

Western Region: April 19: California State University, Fresno

Eastern Region: April 24: Michigan State University Michigan State University, at East Lansing; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855. It opened in 1857 as Michigan Agricultural College, the first state agricultural college.  

Northern Region: April 26: Boise State University

Each school will receive a $1000 scholarship from El Monterey. Taquitos who is co-sponsoring the Championship with each participating University. The California State University, Fresno Student Activities Staff and Student Committee for Vintage Days is co-sponsoring the Western Region Finals.
