ADVISORY...for Thursday Thursday: see week.  (Sept. 21)

EVENT:            The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia is
                  participating in this year's United Way Day of
                  Caring. The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers
                  at local corporations to participate in projects at
                  local Salvation Army centers. Volunteer
                  opportunities include: beautifying a South
                  Philadelphia park and playground by cutting grass,
                  picking up trash; beautifying a neighborhood in
                  North Philadelphia by painting over graffiti on the
                  walls of The Salvation Army Corps Community Center;
                  painting an all-purpose room for the children of the
                  3rd Street Day Care Center; and planting a garden
                  for senior citizens at a senior residence home.

                    The Salvation Army is joining other area non-profit
                  organizations in the United Way Day of Caring, an
                  opportunity for volunteers from corporations in our
                  area to become involved in various projects to
                  benefit surrounding communities.

WHEN:             Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000
                  9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

ADDITIONAL        The Salvation Army was founded 134 years ago as a
DETAILS:          religious and social services organization.  Since
                  that time, the organization has taken a holistic
                  approach to working with people, addressing their
                  physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual
                  needs. The Salvation Army provides community
                  supportive services, residential shelters, foster
                  care, developmental disabilities programs,
                  correctional services programs, child development
                  centers, after-school care and Corps Community
                  Centers.
