This afternoon, volunteers from FleetBoston Financial and State Street Corporation will be on-site at The Greater Boston Greater Boston is the area of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts surrounding the city of Boston, Massachusetts. While Metro Boston tends to be the "Inner Core" surrounding the City of Boston, Greater Boston overlaps the North and South Shores, as well as the MetroWest region. Food Bank's 99 Atkinson Street warehouse to participate in a Volunteer Food Sorting Competition. This event is one of several being held by The Greater Boston Food Bank during the course of the week. America's Second Harvest America's Second Harvest is a United States based nonprofit organization. It consists of a nation-wide network of more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations that serve virtually every county in the United States as well as Puerto Rico. and its 215 affiliate food banks and food rescue programs nation-wide are also hosting various activities and events to mark National Hunger Awareness Day. Every year, The Greater Boston Food Bank receives millions of pounds of donated food, and depends on volunteers from area businesses, non-profit groups, local high schools as well as individuals to help sort the food for easy distribution. Throughout this week, volunteer groups will compete against each other to see who can sort the greatest amount of food in a given time span. Following is a schedule for the competitions:
