At a time when research productivity in the pharmaceutical industry is increasing exponentially, the process of turning hits into compounds worthy of developing is still a bottleneck in drug discovery. It has become imperative that the metabolism, pharmacokinetics and toxicology sectors of the pharmaceutical industry rapidly address the need to use new technologies, higher-throughput screening, and both computational and simulation approaches to shorten the timeline and increase the success rate of discovering and developing new therapeutics. The Early ADME and Toxicology in Drug Discovery Conference will address these issues and provide examples of emerging technologies and innovative approaches in ADME and Toxicology.

Simon Eckford's presentation will discuss how the adoption of high-throughput technologies for early assessment of toxicological and pharmacological properties is creating new challenges to these fields in the areas of data volume, access and evaluation. He will educate attendees on how data analysis solutions can address these challenges by providing simple access to data from multiple databases, offering flexible visualization methods that encourage inspection of the experimental results in new and fruitful ways, and seamlessly integrating data from across diverse technologies. He will also introduce a decision support platform for early compound pharm/tox evaluation that meets these requirements.

Prior to joining Spotfire as a Field Researcher, Simon was associated with the Mass Spectrometry department of Huntington Life Sciences, UK. Previously, he spent two years at Rhone Poulenc Rorer in the Discovery Drug Disposition department in Dagenham, UK. He received both a B.S. in chemistry and an M.S. in analytical chemistry from the University of Bristol.
