WHAT: Showcase Cinemas Orange is bringing the open-captioned version
of Saving Private Ryan to deaf and hard of hearing audiences.
Open-captioned films resemble foreign film with subtitles, but
also include icons and written descriptions of sounds that
convey the tone of the story. There is full sound on the film,
and the text is burned onto each individual print. It is much
more aesthetically pleasing than closed-captioning and doesn't
require any maintenance or special equipment.
