WHAT: In recognition of October as Domestic Violence
Awareness Month, Polaroid Corporation is hosting the
first free national online training seminar on
domestic violence photo documentation and invites
all law enforcement, healthcare and other
professionals to participate in the live Web cast.
The workshop is designed to help law enforcement
personnel better understand how to recognize
domestic violence, document cases and help break the
cycle through effective prosecution.
The interactive workshop will offer training tips
and techniques from three well-known speakers on how
to use instant photos for documenting family
violence injuries and crime scene evidence. This
training has substantially enhanced the quality and
effectiveness of using photographs for legal
evidence.
WHO: -- Lt. Mark Wynn, retired officer with the Nashville
Police Department, speaks internationally on the
changing role of law enforcement in documenting
domestic violence and will address this subject
during the Web cast.
-- Dr. Ellen Taliaferro, director of violence and
injury prevention at Parkland Memorial Hospital
and co-founder of Physicians for a Violence-free
Society, has become one of the nation's leading
violence prevention experts and will discuss the
role of healthcare practitioners.
-- Gael Strack, assistant city attorney, will speak
from a prosecutor's standpoint. Ms. Strack
currently heads the San Diego domestic violence
unit, which is renowned for its proactive
community response in fighting domestic violence.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT
for approximately one hour
