EVENT: The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia has
been selected as the recipient of the Franklin
Mills Mall "Clean Out/Help Out" four-week clothing
drive. The drive kicks-off on March 27, 2001 -
"National Clutter Day."
The Franklin Mills Mall will collect clothing from
mall visitors March 27 through April 15. All
collections will benefit the Salvation Army Adult
Rehabilitation Center (ARC), a long-term drug and
alcohol rehabilitation center that accommodates
133 men and women.

ADDITIONAL All clothing will be donated to local Salvation
DETAILS: Army Thrift Stores. The lack of donations
throughout recent winter months has resulted in an
urgent need for clothing, shoes, and accessories
at the 11-area thrift stores. Store proceeds
provide for the basic needs of all ARC shelter
residents.
Adult Rehabilitation Center program is self-funded
through thrift store sales. Those who drive the
trucks, sort the clothing donations, and work in
the thrift stores are often clients working
through their recovery program. The program is a
faith-based drug / alcohol recovery work therapy
program, combined with individual and group
counseling, that has been offered as an example of
effective faith-based social services delivery by
John DiIulio at the recent Jerry Lee Lecture at
the University of Pennsylvania.
The Salvation Army was founded 135 years ago as a
religious and social services organization. Since
that time, the organization has taken a holistic
approach to working with people, addressing their
physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual
needs. The Salvation Army provides community
supportive services, residential shelters, foster
care, developmental disabilities programs,
correctional services programs, child development
centers, after-school care and Corps Community
Centers.
Donors may also drop-off bagged donations at any local Salvation Army Salvation Army, Protestant denomination and international nonsectarian Christian organization for evangelical and philanthropic work.
